lists and final rankings; publishes early July once all the all-state lists are published.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lets see where we stand now\u00a0with Virginia having completed their regional tournaments and setup state semi finals&#8217; matchups.<\/p>\n<p>All Virginia regional finals were played on 6\/1\/18.\u00a0 District and Regional Winners in all cases highlighted in\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>bold red<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Northern Virginia<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Virginia district tournaments\u00a0start up on 5\/16\/18 and Regionals started up on 5\/23\/18.\u00a0 All\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.novabaseballmagazine.com\/playoffs\">local district playoff brackets<\/a>\u00a0are well kept at NovaBaseballmagazine.com.<\/p>\n<p>A reminder that there was some\u00a0major\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/alignmentt-district-for-2017-18-and-2018-19-1.pdf\">re-alignment from last year<\/a>; regional powerhouse Madison was moved out of the Liberty district for the first time in decades, now joins the strong Concorde division with some bigger schools.\u00a0\u00a0There are now mixed conferences, splitting teams up that were formerly 4A, 5A and 6A.\u00a0 \u00a0Northern Va districts are pretty consistent; mostly consisting of all 6A or 5A teams &#8230; but other districts around the state are a mess, having teams spanning in some cases 4 class sizes.\u00a0 In 6A, we&#8217;ll have 6-A Region A and B from the Richmond\/Va Beach areas and Regions C &amp; D from the Northern Virginia areas.\u00a0 New <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/alginment-24-region-for-2017-18-and-2018-19.pdf\">district to region alignment table here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a first in my memory, nearly a week of rain forced organizers to literally abandon playoff games and just hand out district titles.\u00a0 See below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.novabaseballmagazine.com\/2018-region-brackets\">Regional brackets<\/a>\u00a0are here at NovaBaseball and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/brackets\/baseball\/\">here at VHSL&#8217;s site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 6 Region C &#8220;Occoquan Region&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cardinal (mostly 6-A)<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Forest Park<\/strong><\/span> won the title over Potomac (who went to the 5-C tourney)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gunston District (6-A)<\/strong>: #1 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>West Potomac\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>takes the title.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patriot (6-A)<\/strong>: #1 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Lake Braddock<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0took the title.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the Regional tournament (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1ZrqyduoGsv9q5JnQ8IC7vnWfiaxpaOVz\/view\">draw here<\/a>), the District winners were seeded West Potomac, Forest Park, Lake Braddock and at-large Woodbridge.\u00a0 In the quarters on 5\/25\/18,\u00a0 WT Woodson upset West Potomac, West Springfield beat Robinson, Lake Braddock beat Colgan, and Forest Park\u00a0 held off Stuart.\u00a0 The expected\u00a0top seeds Lake Braddock and West Springfield advanced to the final\/qualified for states and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>West Springfield<\/strong><\/span> springs the upset over perhaps NoVa&#8217;s top team to win the regional title.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 6 Region D &#8220;Northern Region&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Concorde District (6-A):\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Madison<\/span><\/strong> beat Chantilly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cedar Run (6-A)<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Battlefield<\/strong> <\/span>given the title by default over Patriot.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Liberty (6-A)<\/strong>: #4 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Yorktown<\/strong> <\/span>took the title<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the Regional tournament (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1sEaVm4pcWtIqjdAoc9aYqcwiEl7u2JJd\/view\">draw here<\/a>), the District winners were seeded Yorktown, Battlefield, Madison and at-large Marshall (who competes in a weird 6a\/5a district).\u00a0 I probably would have seeded it so that Madison\/Battlefield was a final but Marshall may be favored to beat the upstart Yorktown.\u00a0 Quick prediction: Battlefield over Marshall in the final.\u00a0 In the Quarters on 5\/25\/18, Centreville upset Yorktown, Chantilly upset Marshall, South Lakes upset Madison and only Battlefield held serve in an upset-laden regional, so my predictions were way off.\u00a0 I still sense Battlefield is the power of the region.\u00a0 In the semis, Chantilly beat their neighborhood rivals Centreville and Battlefield held off the upstart South Lakes to make the Regional final\/qualify for states.\u00a0 In the Northern Region final,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Battlefield<\/strong> <\/span>turned a 4-1 deficit quickly into a 7-4 lead and made it stick, beating Chantilly for the region crown.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Southern Virginia Class 6 Regions:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 6 Region A<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Beach District<\/strong> (5a and 6a): sends Ocean Lakes, First Colonial, Cox, and Kellam.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eastern District<\/strong> (mix): only 6A team Grandby<\/li>\n<li><strong>Peninsula District (<\/strong>mix): sends only 6A team Woodside<\/li>\n<li><strong>Southeastern District<\/strong> (mix): sends Western Branch, Oscar Smith<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the Regionals (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1YpCzaY0mSuF8Dd2Bn-MTFX472VgS3FHj\/view\">draw here<\/a>)&#8230; Grandby, Western Branch (your defending state champ), Ocean Lakes and First Colonial are the seeds.\u00a0 Oscar Smith beat Ocean Lakes in the 1st round; other seeds held.\u00a0 First Colonial upset Grandby while Western Branch advanced to the regional final\/qualified for states.\u00a0 In the final, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>First Colonial<\/strong><\/span> continued their upsetting ways, topping one of the best teams in the state after <a href=\"https:\/\/pilotonline.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/article_ad41093e-660b-11e8-a085-6b6d5ad09da4.html\">nearly squandering an 8 run lead<\/a> to win the Region title.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 6 Region B<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dominion District<\/strong> (mix of 3,4,5,6A teams): Manchester, James River, Cosby and Clover Hill advanced to the Regional tourney, in that seed order.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Central District<\/strong> (mostly 5A): sent its only 6A team Thomas Dale<\/li>\n<li><strong>Commonwealth District\u00a0<\/strong>(mostly 5A): sent its two 6A team Colonial Forge and Riverbend to the regionals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Piedmont Distrct<\/strong> (mostly 3A and 4A): sent its only 6A team Franklin County to the regionals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the Regionals (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1XLUWZDiERZk-8Nj0Kisk0veoVEHayYgX\/view\">draw here<\/a>), Manchester, James River, Thomas Dale and Cosby are the top 4 seeds in order.\u00a0 Manchester was upset in the first round by Roanoke power Franklin County; other seeds went through to the semis.\u00a0 Cosby and Thomas Dale advanced to the final\/qualified for states.\u00a0 \u00a0There, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Cosby<\/strong><\/span> beat Thomas Dale 8-1 to win the region.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Northern Virginia Class 5 Regions<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 5 Region C<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Potomac<\/strong>\u00a0(5-A): #1 Freedom-South Riding and #2 Stone Bridge.\u00a0 <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Freedom<\/span><\/strong> beat Briar Woods in the district final.\u00a0 \u00a0Sent Freedom, Briar Woods (defending state champs), Rock Ridge, Potomac Falls and Stone Bridge.<\/li>\n<li><strong>National (mostly 5-A)<\/strong>: #1 Marshall faces off against #3 Edison for the title.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Marshall<\/strong> <\/span>destroyed Edison for the title and got an &#8220;at-large&#8221; bid into the 6-A regional tourney.\u00a0 Edison, Wakefield and Stuart to the 5A region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the Regional tournament (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1r1S1R5kKqUwVrlclDzeIFXEkDqbVA5z4\/view\">draw here<\/a>),\u00a0the top 3 teams from National (not including the 6A teams) and the top 5 teams from Potomac made for an 8-team regional.\u00a0 Top seeds are Freedom-South Riding and Edison.\u00a0 \u00a0Edison was upset in the first round en route to all the National district teams being defeated by stronger Potomac district rivals.\u00a0 Freedom-South Riding and defending state champ Briar Woods to the regional final\/state qualification, where <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Freedom-South Riding<\/strong><\/span> easily beat Briar Woods 9-3 to win the region.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Class 5 Region D<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cardinal (mostly 6-A)<\/strong>:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Forest Park<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0won the title over Potomac, which was the only 5A team in the district and is the #1 seed in the regional tourney.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Commonwealth District\u00a0<\/strong>(mostly 5A):\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Mountain View<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0given the title by rain-induced default.\u00a0 sent Massoponax, North Stafford, Mountain View, Stafford, Brooke Point,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Piedmont District<\/strong> (mix): sent Halifax county.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jefferson District<\/strong>: sent Orange, Albemarle,<\/li>\n<li><strong>River Ridge District<\/strong>: sent Prince Henry (Roanoke)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Valley District<\/strong>: sent Harrisonburg<\/li>\n<li><strong>Blue Ridge District<\/strong>: sent William Fleming<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Seven districts to send 12 teams to regionals.<\/p>\n<p>In the regional tournament (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1a6pu-wFCOWXJssuUHn3hwxaf-S6EKmpx\/view\">draw here<\/a>), Potomac, and Halifax were the two top seeds, split by &#8220;north&#8221; and &#8220;south&#8221; areas of this region.\u00a0 They played out essentially two mini regional tourneys, with the winners meeting at the end but both going to states.\u00a0\u00a0Potomac and Halifax held serve and made the regional final\/qualified for states.\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Potomac<\/strong> <\/span>beat their southern Virginia rivals for the region title 4-2, their first regional title since their awesome run in the late 1980s.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Southern Virginia Class 5 Regions:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Class 5 Region A<\/strong><\/span> (mostly Tidewater area teams)<\/p>\n<p>In the regional tournament (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1kMz2v_1QaQ6sGoZRXOV__PA9ZNbRys8h\/view\">draw here<\/a>),\u00a0Mencheville and\u00a0 Maury the top seeds.\u00a0 Both advanced to the regional final\/qualified for the state tournament, though Maury was beaten on the field by Hickory, who <a href=\"https:\/\/pilotonline.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/article_dc948cd4-6399-11e8-9cc0-636fa8d7ad8a.html\">then had to forfeit<\/a> due to their starter throwing 118 pitches\u00a0(the limit is 110).\u00a0\u00a0In the final, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Menchville<\/strong><\/span> won 6-3.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Class 5 Region B<\/strong> <\/span>(mostly Richmond teams)<\/p>\n<p>In the regional tournament (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1in4-_xiEQkDIfMLxDQWomrSS9qpaYfmU\/view\">draw here<\/a>), Godwin and Prince George the top seeds.\u00a0 #8 Regional seed Deep Run upset #1 seeded Godwin then destroyed Freeman to make the regional final against #2 seed Prince George.\u00a0 There, the #8 seed continued its run, topping one of the best teams in the state to win the region title.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Deep Run<\/strong><\/span> over Prince George.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 4<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 4A Region A<\/strong><\/span> (Tidewater): <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/10nTkGpH4BD85ALS7NsvkqtNvabSIFJNd\/view\">Draw here<\/a>: Grafton and\u00a0 traditional power Great Bridge the top seeds, but Great Bridge upset early.\u00a0 Grafton easily advanced over Deep Creek and Jamestown to the Region final\/qualify for the State tournament.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Grafton<\/strong><\/span> beat Jamestown to win the region.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 4A Region B<\/strong><\/span> (Richmond): <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1VbQQ_nHxhSLdPj7WmKGoz_AJ8D0TcpdF\/view\">Draw here<\/a>: Louisa and Powhatan the top seeds.\u00a0 2017 State runner-up and traditional power\u00a0Hanover #6 seed.\u00a0 Dinwiddie upset Louisia and Powhatan got by Hanover to make the Region final and qualify for the State tournament.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Dinwiddie<\/strong><\/span> beat Powhatan 11-5 for the Regional title.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 4A Region C<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Northern Virginia):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dulles District<\/strong>:\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Riverside<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(the 2017 3A state runners-up, now in 4A) beat Woodgrove for the district title.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Northwestern District<\/strong>:\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Millbrooke<\/span><\/strong> beat Fauquier for the district title.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regional <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1d6obZuPkHDLoTuq2b6b0Nd_3h3qH3cGa\/view\">draw here<\/a>: Woodgrove and Fauquier upset the district winners to advance to the regional final\/qualify for state tournament.\u00a0 There, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Fauquier<\/strong> <\/span>beat Woodgrove for the regional title.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Class 4A Region D<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Lynchburg\/Roanoke): <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1XalAQXwhi2w4mRm6z7W58zqnpkrx_wYs\/view\">Draw here<\/a>: defending state champ Liberty Christian and\u00a0 Salem the top seeds.\u00a0 In a massive upset, LCA was beaten in the first round by William Byrd, giving them their first loss of the season and ending it at the same time.\u00a0 MaxPreps #1 ranked Virginia team is out early.\u00a0 \u00a0Salem and Amherst County advance to regional final\/qualify for state tournament and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Salem<\/strong><\/span> wins 3-2 to take the regional title.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Virginia 3A, 2A, 1A<\/span><\/strong>: see vhsl site for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/brackets\/baseball\/\">draws and results<\/a>\u00a0for these smaller classifications of mostly non-DC area schools.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Maryland<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At this point, the Maryland State tournament is complete.\u00a0 Full Brackets here at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/\">MPSAA website<\/a>\u00a0and direct links to the four State-wide brackets are linked directly below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/?bracket=1008\">Maryland 4-A<\/a><\/span>:\u00a0Regional champs\u00a0Howard, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, CH Flowers, and Severna Park face off for the state title.\u00a0 Howard downed B-CC, Severna Park beat the favored CH Flowers in the semis.\u00a0 In the final, Severna Park took a 4-1 lead into the 7th &#8230; and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Howard<\/strong> <\/span>scored four to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/howard-wins-first-maryland-4a-baseball-title-in-walk-off-win-over-severna-park\/2018\/05\/25\/cc8e9c52-602a-11e8-a4a4-c070ef53f315_story.html?utm_term=.e23d1550e4c3\">walk-off as state champs<\/a> after finishing last year as runners-up.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/?bracket=1007\">Maryland 3-A<\/a>: Regional champs Towson, Thomas Johnson, Huntingtown and Chesapeake-Anne Arundel face off for the state title.\u00a0 In the state semis, Thomas Johnson and Huntingtown advanced to the final, and there <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Thomas Johnson<\/strong><\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/huntingtown-falls-short-in-maryland-3a-baseball-final\/2018\/05\/26\/03ae1e26-6092-11e8-b2b8-08a538d9dbd6_story.html?utm_term=.fbd13fc42b61\">beat Huntington for the state title<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/?bracket=1006\">Maryland 2-A<\/a>: Regional champs Hereford, Century, North East and power-house La Plata face off for the state title.\u00a0 In the state semis, Century and La Plata advanced to the final, where <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Century<\/strong> <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/la-plata-comes-up-short-in-maryland-2a-baseball-finals\/2018\/05\/26\/d556505c-6091-11e8-b2b8-08a538d9dbd6_story.html?utm_term=.01be688c9007\">held off La Plata for the state title<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/?bracket=1005\">Maryland 1-A<\/a>: Regional champs Sparrows Point, Boonsboro, McDonough and defending state champ St. Michaels face off for the state title.\u00a0 \u00a0St. Michaels and Boonsboro both advanced to force a re-match of the 2017 final, where <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Boonsboro<\/strong> <\/span>turned the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldmailmedia.com\/sports\/warriors-rally-for-a-baseball-state-championship\/article_011bca3e-613f-11e8-955c-bbcfc3f21b8b.html\">tides and took the state title<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A quick list of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maxpreps.com\/playoffs\/brackets.aspx?gendersport=boys,baseball&amp;state=md\">past Maryland State champions by
