{"id":9896,"date":"2014-10-17T08:57:38","date_gmt":"2014-10-17T12:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=9896"},"modified":"2014-10-17T08:57:38","modified_gmt":"2014-10-17T12:57:38","slug":"world-series-pitching-matchups-predictions-that-you-should-laugh-at","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=9896","title":{"rendered":"World Series Pitching Matchups &#038; Predictions (that you should laugh at)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=9854\">Divisional series prediction post<\/a>, I predicted the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Washington-San Francisco<\/strong>: predict a Washington 3-1 series win.\u00a0 Actual: SF wins 3-1.<\/li>\n<li><strong>St. Louis-Los Angeles Dodgers<\/strong>: predicted a LA sweep or 3-1 series win.\u00a0 Actual: StL wins 3-1.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Detroit-Baltimore<\/strong>: predicted a Detroit sweep or a 3-1 win.\u00a0 Actual: Baltimore sweeps 3-0.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kansas City-Los Angeles Angels<\/strong>: predicted a LA victory in 5.\u00a0 Actual: Kansas City sweeps 3-0.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=9870\">League Championship Series prediction post<\/a>, I predicted the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>San Francisco- St. Louis: predicted St. Louis in 7.\u00a0 Actual: San Francisco walks off 4-1.<\/li>\n<li>Baltimore-Kansas City: predicted Baltimore in 6: Actual, Kansas City sweeps 4-0.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So.\u00a0 Six post season series down, and i&#8217;m 0-6 in predicting things.\u00a0 Mostly off badly too.\u00a0 What now?\u00a0 Of course!\u00a0 Predict the World Series!\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/postseason-schedule\/?tcid=mm_mlb_schedule\">post-season schedule<\/a> and the likely matchups:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Game 1: SF@KC Tue Oct 21: <strong>Madison Bumgarner<\/strong><strong> v James Shields<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Game 2: SF@KC Wed Oct 22: <strong>Jake Peavy<\/strong> v <strong>Yordano Ventura<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Game 3: KC@SF Fri Oct 24: <strong>Jason Vargas<\/strong> v <strong>Tim Hudson<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Game 4: KC@SF Sat Oct 25: <strong>Jeremy Guthrie<\/strong> v <strong>Ryan Vogelsong<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Game 5: KC@SF Sun Oct 26: Shields-Bumgarner (if necessary)<\/li>\n<li>Game 6: SF@KC Tue Oct 28: Peavy-Ventura (if necessary)<\/li>\n<li>Game 7: SF@KC Wed Oct 29: Hudson-Vargas (if necessary)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How do things look?<\/p>\n<p>Bumgarner has now thrown 31 post season innings so far in 2014.\u00a0 He&#8217;s given up 19 hits, 5 walks, and just 5 earned runs in that time (3 last night, 2 more against the Nats).\u00a0 Shields, despite his moniker of &#8220;big game,&#8221;\u00a0 has not been solid this post season, giving up 10 runs in 16 innings.\u00a0 Ventura has one good outing and one mediocre outing.\u00a0 Peavy has been on a very short leash (thanks to the presence of two reliable long-men in the Giant&#8217;s pen in <strong>Yusmeiro Petit<\/strong> and <strong>Tim Lincecum<\/strong>) but has given decent performances.\u00a0 Advantage Giants in pitching in the first two games; I&#8217;ll go with a 1-1 split in KC.<\/p>\n<p>Back in SF, Hudson and Vogelsong both were dominant against the Nats, but not so much against the Cards.\u00a0 I have a feeling the Royals are going to hit them.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll predict that the Giants take 2 of 3 in SF, sending the Royals back to KC down 3-2.\u00a0 From there, Its hard to argue against the run the Royals are on, and they&#8217;ll have home field plus be done with Bumgarner.\u00a0 Royals ride their wave of good fortune in beating &#8220;better&#8221; teams and take the series.\u00a0 <strong>Prediction: Royals in 7.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Just a note: are you troubled\u00a0 by the fact that both wild cards are in the world series?\u00a0 Or that the teams with the best records (Nats and Angels) were both (rather easily) defeated in the divisional series?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my Divisional series prediction post, I predicted the following: Washington-San Francisco: predict a Washington 3-1 series win.\u00a0 Actual: SF wins 3-1.
